Plasback bins are sold seperately.             Plasback liners can be purchased with a Plasback instore display stand.

Why different plastics must be seperated

Fodder packaging waste is made from three different types of plastic. Each type has different properties and melt temperatures, which mean they cannot be processed together. They are:

Silage wrap LLDPE (linear low density polyethylene)
Silage covers LLDPE (linear low density polyethylene)
Grain storage tubes LDPE (low density polyethylene)
Net wrap (or hay band) HDPE (high density polyethylene)
Baling twine PP (polypropylene)

Due to the low value of these plastics, it is too costly to sort them after they are collected. They need to be separated at the source – when the farmer is putting them in the Plasback liner. Therefore only silage wrap can go in the clearly marked “Silage Wrap Only” liners. If there are any other plastics in the liners – such as net wrap, baling twine or feed bags – the liners will be rejected by council. Similarly there cannot be any other garbage in the liners.

The reasons for using a specific bin and liner system are:

It ensures a clean, segregated waste stream as the liner is clear and therefore foreign matter & contamination is easily detected. If any material other than silage wrap is present – the liner cannot be recycled.
Handling costs are reduced – the liner is made of Linear Low Density Polyethylene, the same plastic the silage wrap is made from, so liners do not need to be emptied for reprocessing.
Consistent size for handling and baling.
Ease of use, manual lift.
They will fit in a ute.
Eventually there will be different liners for different types of farm plastic waste.

The Plasback bin is made from a sheet of Tuffboard (recycled farm plastic), comes flat packed and ready to be assembled by the farmer into a simple cylinder. The Plasback liners will fit into the bin as shown below. By using the bin and tightly rolling each wrap into a tight “football” as shown, 20+ silage wraps can fit into one liner. Therefore the investment in a bin will save you time and money.

Remember to SHAKE, ROLL & RATTLE

SHAKE …
The wrap to get rid of excesss moisture, stones, soil and silage contamination. Separate out any twine/netwrap and fold the wrap into a neat rectangle

ROLL …
The wrap into a tight ball about the size of a football. Press the ball of wrap tightly into the Plasback liner inside the Plasback bin. When the liner is full, tie it off and lift the bin over the liner.

RATTLE (into town!)
Full Plasback liners can then be dropped at designated council landfills and fransfer stations. (link to drop off page) will show you the nearest drop off point to you. Large quantities may have to be booked in.
